Mississippi Tobacco Control Network’s 2013-2018 Strategic Plan

The Mississippi Tobacco Control Network, an assembly of tobacco prevention and control advocates from around Mississippi, created the 2013-2018 Tobacco Control and Prevention Strategic Plan. It is based on the components of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s evidence‐based Best Practices for Comprehensive Tobacco Control Programs, 2007:
I. Administration and Management
II. State and Community Interventions
III. Cessation Interventions
IV. Health Communication Interventions
V. Surveillance and Evaluation

The plan helps groups and organizations meet four goals:

– Prevent initiation of tobacco use among youth and young adults,
– Promote quitting among adults and youth,
– Eliminate exposure to secondhand smoke, and
– Identify and eliminate tobacco‐related disparities among population groups.
