MSPHI has partnered with the Mississippi Department of Mental Health since 2018 to provide training and prevention services to combat the opioid crisis in Mississippi.

The purpose of this project is to implement peer support services or Care Coordinators in the six geographically diverse regions that are selected for the MSDH telehealth services.

The program was began to enhance the co-occurring treatment capabilities of the service providers in community mental health centers and standalone centers who treat substance use disorders.
DMH-Prevention
Operating under a Substance Abuse Block Grant, our prevention specialist focuses on three prevention priorities: prescription drug use, alcohol use, and marijuana use across all age groups in Madison County by working in local schools and communities to facilitate substance abuse prevention services based on the Center for Substance Abuse Prevention Strategies.

Mississippi’s SmartTrack Survey has been the gold standard of school-based surveys that assess student risks and protections throughout the state while permitting effectiveness evaluations of school-based interventions.
COVID-19 Case Investigation Center (CCIC)
MSPHI is poised to assist MSDH to meet this challenge by implementing a robust COVID-19 workforce development effort for call center staff, which includes initial and ongoing training.
Maternal Opioid Project
The goal of the project is to train women’s health providers about treating women with opioid use disorder and assist them in obtaining a prescribing waiver.
MSDH Office Against Interpersonal Violence: Grants Application Management and Training Assistance
The Office Against Interpersonal Violence at the Mississippi Department of Health grants state and federal funding to support victims of interpersonal violence and other crimes where MSPHI assists the program in the development and management of an online application management system to streamline the process for the 140+ applicants for subgrant funding.
Epidemiological Laboratory Capacity (ELC) Firstline Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) Training
MSPHI nurse educators work in consultation with MSDH Office of Epidemiology with direction from the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). This project is a national training collaborative for healthcare infection prevention and control.
Jackson Safer Childbirth Experience/Merck for Mothers Safer Childbirth Cities Initiative
The Jackson Safer Childbirth Experience (JSCE) is a member of the 2019 inaugural class of the Merck for Mothers Safer Childbirth Cities Initiative, which supports ten projects in ten cities across the country to help end preventable maternal deaths.
